The problem
The video you want to post almost always has someone in it who never agreed to be in it — a stranger behind you on the street, other children at the school play, a colleague in the background of a site visit.
Covering them by hand means drawing a box on every frame, and the apps that do it for you mostly want the video on their server first. That is the one thing you should not have to do with a video of somebody else's face.
Blurish does the finding and the following on the phone itself, and leaves you with the part that needs a person: deciding who stays visible.
What it does
Built around four things.
Every face, found and followed
Pick a clip and Blurish finds each person in it and keeps their mask on them as they move, so a five-minute walk through a crowd is not five minutes of manual work.
Pick how each face is hidden
Blur, mosaic, a solid colour, an emoji, your own sticker, or a different sticker for everyone from a themed kit. Each person can get their own, or everyone can get the same.
Fix anything it missed
Tap a face to change it, or add a mask yourself — oval, rectangle or drawn freehand — and let it track the person. Number plates can be covered too.
Stays on your iPhone
Finding, tracking and exporting all happen on the device. Your videos and photos are never uploaded, and there is no account to make.
How it works
Where the processing happens.
Your videos and photos never leave your iPhone. There is no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. The one thing Blurish sends anywhere is a request for its own settings, and this page says exactly what that request carries.
01
Pick a video or photo
From Photos or Files. Blurish sees only what you pick, and works on its own copy.
02
Faces are found
Every face is found and given a mask that follows it. Or start from a template — mosaic everyone, emoji everyone, flowers on everyone, or hide everyone but you.
03
Change what you need
Give a face a different effect, leave one visible, or add a mask for a face that was turned away.
04
Save or share
Export to Photos or share it straight from the app. The masks are burned into the new file; your original is left as it was.
Screens
Blurish, in use.
Screens go here once the app is feature-complete. We would rather show nothing than mock up an interface that doesn’t exist yet.
Questions
Straight answers.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Faces are found by Apple's on-device Vision framework, and the video is rendered on your iPhone. The only network request Blurish makes is to fetch a few app settings, and it carries nothing from your videos.
Does it recognise who people are?
No. It finds where faces are, not whose they are. There is no face recognition and nothing that could identify a person is stored.
Will it catch every face?
Most, not all. A face that is very small, turned away, in motion blur or partly hidden can be missed for a few frames. Play the video through before you share it — that check is yours to make.
Is blur enough to hide a face?
Not always. A blur can sometimes be partly reversed, which is why the app marks it “look only”. For real privacy use a mosaic, a solid colour, an emoji or a sticker.
What is free?
Blurring faces in videos up to 20 seconds long, exported at 720p with a small Blurish mark, and three photos a day. Premium adds every effect, full-length videos, up to 4K, no watermark, stickers, templates and batch photos.
