The problem
Bedtime is the one part of the day a child wants the same thing every night: a book, a voice they know, and the lights going down slowly.
Most story apps for children are built for the opposite — bright, busy and full of things to tap, with ads or upsells a child can reach on their own.
Bedtime Tales is a quiet picture book on a phone or iPad. The pages turn with the voice, the music stays low, and everything a child should not reach sits behind a grown-up check.
What it does
Built around four things.
Read to by a calm storyteller
Every book comes with its own narration. The words light up as they are read, and the pages turn by themselves with the voice.
Or in your own voice
Record a book page by page, and your child can hear it in your voice any night — when you are travelling, or just when they ask for it again. The recordings stay on your device.
Your child's name in the story
When you read a book or record it, the hero can carry your child's name.
Made for bedtime
Soft music that stays under the voice, a sleep timer, and a lights-out screen. Downloaded books play without the internet.
How it works
Where the processing happens.
Bedtime Tales has no account, no ads and no tracking, and it never asks your child for anything. Your child's name and your voice recordings stay on your device. The app sends anonymous counts of how books are used, with no identifier at all, and crash reports so we can fix what breaks.
01
Pick a book
Tap a book on the shelf and it opens. A few come with the app; the rest download once and then stay on the device.
02
Read, Listen or Record
Read it together, let the storyteller read it, or record it yourself one page at a time.
03
Lights out
Turn the music off, set the sleep timer, or end on the lights-out screen.
Screens
Bedtime Tales, in use.
Screens go here once the app is feature-complete. We would rather show nothing than mock up an interface that doesn’t exist yet.
Questions
Straight answers.
Are there ads?
No. There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking. Buying, links out of the app and emails to us are all behind a grown-up check.
Where do my recordings go?
Nowhere. A recording is saved on your device, page by page, and is never uploaded. Only that device can play it back, and you can delete all recordings in the parents' area.
Does it need the internet?
Only to download a book the first time, or to buy. After that the book, its pictures and its narration are on your device and play offline.
What does it cost?
Some books are free, and a few more open when you share Bedtime Tales with a friend or family member. Unlock all books opens the whole library through a monthly or yearly subscription from the App Store; the yearly plan can start with a free trial.
Which languages?
The app and the books can be shown in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Arabic and Hindi. The storyteller reads in English for now; Read and Record work in the book's language.
