Start here

Bedtime Tales is a picture-book app for young children, made to be used with a parent. It has no account and no sign-up, no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking, and it never asks permission to track anyone. A child using the app is never asked to type, say or share anything; sharing the app is for parents, behind the grown-up check.

Your child's name and your voice recordings stay on your device. Three things leave it: anonymous counts of how the books are used, crash reports, and the requests that download books. This policy says exactly what each carries.

What stays on your device

  • Your child's details: A first name, an age band and a pronoun, typed by a parent in the parents' area, so the hero of a story can carry your child's name when you read or record a book. They are never sent anywhere.
  • Voice recordings: When a parent records a book, each page is saved as an audio file in the app's own storage. Recordings are never uploaded, not to us and not to anyone else, and only that device can play them. We do not analyse, clone or reuse anyone's voice.
  • Reading and settings: Reading progress, downloaded books, the app and book language, text size, music, the sleep timer and the story font.

If your device is backed up to iCloud or a computer, the app's storage is included in that backup the same way as other apps.

Anonymous usage counts

To learn which books children enjoy and where the app falls short, Bedtime Tales counts a few things and sends them to our own server at stats.odyraai.com, which runs on Cloudflare. No third-party analytics service receives them.

The counts are: the app being installed and opened on a day (with whether it has a subscription and how many books are downloaded); a book being opened, finished, or left before the end and on which page, and whether it was read, listened to or played in a parent's voice; book downloads and updates; the plans screen being opened, purchases and restores; a recording session (how many pages were recorded, not the recording); a few settings (music, text size, highlighting, sleep timer, story font); the lights-out screen; the app covering itself during a screen recording; the share-to-unlock card being shown, and whether the app was shared from it (never with whom or how); and the rating prompt.

Each batch also carries the app version, the iOS version and the app's language. The counts carry no identifier of any kind: no device or install id, no advertising id, no account, and nothing a parent or child types, such as a name. Our server records the country Cloudflare works out from the connection, and does not store the network address itself. Because nothing in the counts identifies a device or a person, they cannot be linked back to you or your child.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can find and fix the fault. A report contains the technical details of the crash, the device model, the iOS and app versions, an identifier Firebase creates for this install of the app, and a short list of the screens open just before the crash, given as screen names and book ids.

A crash report contains nothing about your child: no name, no age, no recordings and nothing typed. Firebase Analytics, advertising and other Firebase features are not in the app. The install identifier is not linked to your name, email or Apple Account, and deleting the app ends it.

Downloading books

A few books come with the app. The list of books and the others are downloaded from our server at books.odyraai.com, which runs on Cloudflare. Like any internet request, these requests carry your device's network address; they carry nothing about you or your child, and we keep no record of who downloaded what. A downloaded book stays on the device and plays offline.

Subscriptions and payment

Unlock all books is sold by Apple, not by us. Your payment details go to Apple, and we never see a card number, a billing address or the name on the account. The app asks Apple, on your device, whether a subscription is active, and uses the answer to open every book. That answer is not sent to us, apart from the anonymous purchase count described above.

The grown-up check

Buying, restoring or managing a subscription, sharing the app, opening a link out of the app, rating the app and emailing us all sit behind a parents' check that a young child cannot pass. The parents' area, where a child's name is entered and recordings are deleted, is behind the same check.

Sharing the app

A few books open when a parent shares Bedtime Tales. After the grown-up check, the app opens Apple's share sheet with a short line about the app and a link to it, and you choose whether, how and with whom to share it. The app only learns whether something was shared, not who received it or which app was used, and it remembers on your device which book that opened. Nothing about the people you share with reaches us.

Ratings and email

Bedtime Tales may show Apple's rating prompt, after the parents' check. Apple runs it and decides whether it appears; we only learn about a rating if you leave one on the App Store.

Send us feedback opens an email to support@odyraai.com. It ends with the app version, the iOS version, the device model and the app's languages, which you see before sending. If you write to us, we see your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply.

Children

Bedtime Tales is made for young children, including children under 13, and is meant to be used with a parent. We do not collect personal information from children: nothing a child does in the app identifies them, the details a parent enters stay on the device, and the anonymous counts and crash reports described above carry no information about the child.

If you believe the app has sent us information about your child, write to support@odyraai.com and we will look into it and delete anything we find.

How long things are kept

  • On your device: Until you delete it. For parents, then Delete children, progress and recordings removes the child's details, progress and every recording; deleting the app removes everything.
  • Usage counts: Kept in Cloudflare's Workers Analytics Engine for about three months, then deleted automatically.
  • Crash reports: Kept by Firebase Crashlytics for about 90 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its use. Because the app sends us nothing that identifies you or your child, we usually hold nothing we could find for you, but write to support@odyraai.com and we will help as far as we can. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If what the app does with data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. We will not quietly broaden what the app sends and leave the old page up.
